Inspirational young people from across Northern Ireland received honours at the Daily Mirror Pride of Northern Ireland Awards at Parliament Buildings, Stormont on Saturday night.

Over 300 teenagers from 15 to 17 were there to find out who would, courtesy of easyJet and alpharooms.com, win city breaks to top European cities including Barcelona, Amsterdam, Paris and Malaga.
The easyJet flights went to the winners of various titles… Young Mentor, Young Carer, Young Campaigner and Young Environmentalist of the year. The top prize – the easyJet Special Recognition Award – went to Hollie George from the 16+Pathway Project in Strabane, who won a family holiday to Alicante.

As at previous Pride of Northern Ireland Awards, inspiring stories were told of bravery, courage, determination and commitment of the young people, who not only have transformed their own lives, but also the lives of the people around them.

Andrew McConnell, easyJet corporate affairs manager, said: “This is the third year we have supported the Daily Mirror Pride of Northern Ireland Awards.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility and as a principal sponsor, we are proud to support the initiative, which publicly applauds the positive contribution that many of our young people are making to society in Northern Ireland.

“Each year, the awards offer us a glimpse into the lives of many teenagers who, often against adversity, care about and give so much back to their communities. Their extraordinary courage and inspirational acts leave us profoundly humbled, lifting the spirits of everyone and reminding us of the lasting differences we can make to other people’s lives.

“At easyJet we care about our customers and work hard to make travel easy and affordable for all. Courage, tenacity, care and consideration for others are key qualities that we look for when employing people, and we hope that our involvement in the awards will inspire young people to think about easyJet as a potential employer.

“Young people are the future, and the positivity beaming from everyone attending the awards ceremony was phenomenal – I’ve no doubt that many of these young people will continue to do great things and positively contribute to creating a healthy society and economy.

“The awards scheme has the ability to touch every community and we are proud to publicly show our support for the young people who make us proud to work, live and do business in Northern Ireland.”
